India to attack Pakistan on this date; Ex-Pak High Commissioner makes sensational claim

Amid sharply heightened border tensions and a recent surge in violence in Jammu and Kashmir, former Pakistani High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, has made a sensational claim, stating that India is likely to carry out a military attack on Pakistan on May 10th or 11th. Basit offered no hard evidence to support his assertion.

In a tweet that has significantly increased both media attention and diplomatic activity, Basit speculated that the purported Indian offensive might occur shortly after Russia's Victory Day celebrations on May 9th. "The environment is charged. India may launch an attack against Pakistan after May 9," he posted, without providing any concrete intelligence or reasoning for the specific dates or the claim itself.

Indian officials have largely remained reticent, offering no official comment on Basit's statement. However, his tweet was posted just hours after a devastating terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam area late on Sunday night. In that incident, terrorists ambushed a security convoy, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. This attack is widely viewed as a significant escalation, especially occurring before key phases of the Lok Sabha elections in the region.

Following both the Pahalgam attack and Basit’s subsequent tweet, security forces across the Kashmir Valley have been placed on high alert. Additional deployments have been made in sensitive areas, and intelligence agencies are reported to be closely monitoring all cross-border movements and communication intercepts.

While New Delhi has issued no formal statement suggesting any military action is being planned, strategic analysts are interpreting Basit's provocative tweet with caution. Some believe the timing could be a deliberate effort by Pakistan to internationalize the Kashmir issue and preemptively project Pakistan as a potential victim, particularly in the context of possible retaliatory actions by India following the Pahalgam terror attack.
